Meet Roger
Born in Liverpool in 1947 and a lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC, Roger's work is a personal response to the unique light, landscapes and people of North East England and Merseyside and his passion for the Reds.
Roger studied art at Newcastle College as a mature student and had several successful exhibitions across Tyneside and Northumberland before relocating back to Merseyside in 2011.
Roger's return to Merseyside led to the Going to the Match series of work featured on the site. This was a hugely emotional time for him and his memories of match day experiences make these some of his most evocative works.
Most recently Roger has worked on the new ink sketches which all reflect the landscape around Formby and Ainsdale and he can often be found hanging out of the bedroom window taking photos of the everchanging skies and light.
Roger tries to be both fearless and spontaneous in developing a piece of work and he will often go straight into a painting without any preliminary sketching and only the barest outline of an idea to go on. By working this way he is constantly challenging himself artistically and pushing the boundaries of his own creativity.
